Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil, plus more for garnish
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, halved
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes, kept cold
  • Vanilla bean ice cream, for serving

Recipe Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Pour melted butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish. Mix flour, sugar, basil, baking powder and salt together in large bowl. Add milk and mix together until a thick batter forms.
  2. Pour batter evenly over butter in prepared baking dish. Top with an even layer of strawberries. Top strawberries evenly with cream cheese cubes. Bake until top is golden-brown and edges are bubbling, about 30 to 45 minutes. Allow to cool at room temperature for at least 10 minutes. Garnish with additional basil and serve with ice cream.
