Recipe Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tabelspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 6 sesame seed hamburger buns, light toasted
- 6 slices Borden® American Melts
- 1/2 head bibb lettuce, leaves separated
- 1 small beefsteak tomato, cut into 1/4-inch slices
Recipe Directions
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef, and cook, breaking up into small crumbles with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Cook for about 5 to 6 minutes, until beef begins to brown.
- Add peppers and onion, and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and mustard, and simmer over medium-low heat until fl avors develop, about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Top each bottom bun with sloppy joe mixture, American Melt, lettuce, tomato and top bun. Serve and enjoy.
